About Us

The Auerbuch Stone lab studies how bacterial pathogens cause disease and works toward development of new antimicrobial treatments.

Our research focuses on an important bacterial appendage called the type III secretion system (T3SS) used by dozens of pathogens to manipulate host defenses.

We also work with the UCSC Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the UCSC Chemical Screening Center to identify chemical inhibitors of the T3SS. More about our research.
